Rotary Club of Mechanicsburg-North Duck Race

The Rotary Club of Mechanicsburg-North recently held its First Annual Ducks of Hope Race, a charity duck race sponsored by Highmark to benefit the programs of New Hope Ministries and the Rotary Club of Mechanicsburg-North.
The race debuted in the Yellow Breeches Creek at Messiah College under beautifully clear skies. A number of Rotarians, their family members, and New Hope Ministries supporters frolicked in the creek as they released and caught the rubber ducks. The Rotary Club and New Hope Ministries sold over 1,000 Duck Adoption Certificates.
A finish line banner featuring Highmark, which contributed $5,000 as the title sponsor, was hung on the covered bridge. Duck #198 of the final heat won in a close race, earning his adoptive parent a $1,500 travel voucher.
Club member and project chairman Dave Nesbit stated, “The Mechanicsburg-North Club appreciates the generous sponsorship from Highmark, donations from other area businesses, and all those who purchased Duck Adoption Certificates. The monies raised will support the varied programs offered by New Hope Ministries that address hunger and other emergency crisis assistance and programs for children and youth in Cumberland and York Counties. The proceeds will also enable the Rotary Club of Mechanicsburg-North to continue to provide scholarships to local students and to serve persons in need in Ecuador, Ghana, and other countries around the globe.”
